LCH patients enjoy increased access to mammography, bone density screenings

Lindsborg Community Hospital has experienced significant growth in 3D mammography and DEXA bone density imaging services since adding the technology in-house last fall. The services had previously been provided to the community by mobile imaging units with limited availability at the hospital.

Over the first quarter of the 2026 fiscal year, the hospital has performed 291 mammograms, compared with 137 during the same period last year – a 112% increase. Bone density imaging has grown even more. The hospital completed 102 DEXA scans through the first quarter – marking a 264% increase in patients served compared to the previous year.

Both services were added in-house to improve access and provide more consistent scheduling for patients in the Smoky Valley community. The expanded availability has reduced delays in care and made it easier for patients to complete recommended health screenings in a timely manner.

“The ability to offer daily appointments allows us to accommodate patients’ personal schedules while not delaying care,” said Jodie Miller, Radiology director at Lindsborg Community Hospital. “Additionally, more appointment slots ensure that patients who are due for bone density imaging are receiving that exam, often at the same time as their mammogram, which saves the patients from having to make multiple visits.

“Patients continue to report praise for the technologists and our environment, and we anticipate further growth as we move through the 2026 fiscal year,” Miller said.

3D mammography improves early detection of breast cancer by providing detailed, layered images of breast tissue. DEXA scans measure bone density to assess the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. Providers often recommend the screenings together for eligible patients.
